Performance: solo

Mexico 2004 at Mexico State University to foster interest in contemporary music for cello with and without electronics: recital, as wide ranging as I could make it, combined with equally comprehensive lecture demonstration and a week of workshops and masterclasses with students in the cello department.

Interfusion, the ensemble I founded in 1996. Cello, piano/keyboards and electronics with Clive Williamson (piano and keyboards) and sound diffusion musicians. Commissions (see above), concerts, tours, broadcasts, in the UK, including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and in Europe, including the Netherlands and Germany.

ERMA Junior Orchestral Course: coaching cellos for ten years

A chance to arrange a large quantity of music for cello ensembles (four to six cellos) and cello orchestra, while recuperating after a major operation for breast cancer in 1982: music from medieval times to the present day and with standards from beginner to advanced, as well as mixed ability arrangements. This has been a massively valuable resource in my teaching ever since, so it just goes to show … seize the moment! (Further augmented for Morley College classes in London 1997-2000).

Early Professional Career, 1966-1970/75

Unicorn Opera Group, Abingdon (cello continuo for 10 Handel operas, initially as a student) 1966-1975. Over this time the orchestra changed, step by step, from modern to period instruments and an increasingly historically informed style of playing.

Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra 1967-1970 while still a student, as part of Vernon Handley's helpful scheme for providing experience to younger players.
